One hour and three quarters from Sandstone Trail Cottages by car (63 miles), is one of the best little railways in the World.
With steam trains running for 150 years this is a piece of History and not just about ‘little trains’.
Drive to Blaenau Ffestiniog via Wrexham, Corwen, and Betws-y-coed (worth a stop as well).
Take the train to Porthmadog, spend some time there and then have one of the little locomotives pull you all the way back up again on the return journey.
Return cost yesterday (19th August 2015) was £21.50 per person and £3.00 for each dog. we were not allowed in first class with our dogs, but they were made very welcome by all the staff. They (the dogs) provided entertainment for lots of young folks on the train as it was school holidays.
This is no Mickey Mouse day out. It’s the real deal, awesome scenery, pleasant staff, great clean carriages and toilets, and the steam engines were enchanting.
